Swami Vivekananda's Speech in Parliament of World's Religions

|

We know Swami Vivekananda as an anchor to revival of Hinduism. The speech he delivered glorifying Hinduism in Parliament of World's Religions, on September 11, 1983, made him immortal. With the welcome address, he changed the entire rule of addressing. Not by ' Mr. and 'Mrs.'; he started with, "The sisters and brothers of America". No one did this before and the crowd present there, were amazed at this. They gave him a standing ovation and the applause didn't stop before two minutes. Later, he delivered a wonderful speech which established the concept of Hinduism, all over the world.

At the beginning, He thanked the entire crowd for their " warm and cordial " welcome. Then he mentioned the difference between any other religion with Hinduism. He told how the religion Hinduism taught the entire world "both tolerance and universal acceptance". He admitted that Hinduism accepts all the religion as true. He mentioned how ancient India accepted all the religions to come in and ultimately mix up, and that's why Indian culture is so enriched. Swami Vivekananda was greatly influenced by Sri Ramakrishna, and hence he believed that all the religions ultimately say the same thing, only the points of view were different. He quoted from Vagavad Gita - " As the different streams having their sources in different paths which men take through different tendencies, various though they appear, crooked or straight, all lead to Thee ", to establish this. He also quoted, "Whosoever comes to Me, through whatsoever form, I reach him; all men are struggling through paths which in the end lead to me"
